been a while....imagine this for a second

Just outside looking up at an infinite number of stars, trying to comprehend the vastness of it all.... I read recently that the universe as we know it has been rapidly expanding and cooling at an incredible speed, which is not new to me.  The exact figure (velocity)of expansion far surpasses that of the speed of light 186,000 m/s.  Now I've been on this earth for roughly 50 years looking at the same celestial bodies, constellations etc.  Although miniscule in the scope of time... how is it that during these 50 years light from these constellations has traveled 294,000,000,000,000 miles (294 Trillion)... and remained mostly unchanged in form and fashion....
And for further mind blowing.... our sun makes up 98.8% of all the mass in our solar system... 1.2% is everything else...nuts
